Annona cornifolia - Fox Araticum GRAFTED Plant Ultra Rare Brazilian Cerrado Dwarf Species - Bright Red Fruit
A collectors ‘Holy Grail’ species among the genus Annona, owing to its elegance and beautiful red edible fruit. It is extremely difficult to source plants and seeds of, and they are fairly difficult to germinate. Seeds can take almost a year to sprout!
This is a naturally dwarf species only reaching heights of approximately 6 feet, is frost and drought tolerant as it is native to the tropical highland habitat in Brazil known as the Cerrado. The rounded leaves are a beautiful blue-green color and are highly hydrophobic, with water beading up on the creating a stunning bejeweled look in the rain.
Fruits are bright red and around the size of an average domesticated strawberry. The flavor is said to be mild but pleasant with a taste reminiscent of pumpkin. The reddish-orange color surely indicates the presence of carotenoids, and other beneficial phytochemical components including the usually potent healing compounds found in other species such as soursop.
This dwarf species can easily be grown and fruited in containers long-term in limited spaces making it a great choice for those growing in apartments, balconies and rooftop gardens. Could also be kept in a sunny window and grown indoors if given enough light. It is possible to pollinate by hand to get fruits.
