This is an extremely rare Annona species from Brazil. Cold tolerant, drought tolerant and fruits at relatively small sizes of around 2 meters. May reach 3-5 Meters in the wild. Native to the dry highlands of Brazil.
Produces red delicious fruits with the flavor reminiscent of sweet pumpkin candy! Texture is said to be ‘doughy’ and can be eaten out of hand and could also be employed with great success in baking, ice creams, milkshakes, jams and jellies etc.
Foliage is rounded with a powdery sheen (glaucous layer) and blue-green coloration making this species a truly beautiful fruiting plant with high ornamental value. Contrary to the species name, this plant does not have true ‘spines’ and does not pose a serious hazard to children or animals.
A great choice for the lover of very exotic fruits who are growing in areas that experience a degree of chill.
