Bakupari - the ‘superior’ lemon drop mangosteen! This is the Brazilian version of the more common lemon drop from Mexico (G. intermedia). This is an air-layer clone from our 7 year-old tree which was grown from seed. Air-Layer plants of this type of fruit tree are virtually impossible to find and will fruit much sooner than seed grown plants and at small sizes!
The mother tree is fruiting very heavily now and fruits and flowers year round! However, they will in fact thrive and fruit heavily at small size, dwarfism induced by cloning from a mature tree - the cloned branch ‘remembers/ it is mature already. Great for those will little space or who want an amazing botanical curiosity that will fruit in a pot! Some growers have fruited the indoors without pollination, indicating that the flowers may not only be self fertile but may also be self-pollinating.
